Before You Arrive at the salon

For best results you should try and do the following before using the booth:-

  • Shower.
  • Exfoliate.
  • Do not apply deodorant.
  • Do not apply any creams or lotions.
  • Do not wear perfume.
  • Wear loose fitting COTTON clothes, preferably not white.
If you perspire on your way to the salon use a damp cloth to wipe sweaty areas.

At the salon

Undress.   It is ok to leave on underwear or a bikini if tan lines are desired.  The bronzing agent will stain them but will wash out easily.   If you tan nude you might want to apply a sticker so you can see how effective the tanning process has been.

Take off jewelry.  You can leave any body piercing items in place.

Put on shower cap.   The shower cap should be above the hairline at the front and above your ears.   Don’t worry, the solution does not color your hair.

Apply blocking cream.   As a rule of thumb you should apply blocking cream to all areas which do not tan naturally.   For example if you look at your feet there is a distinct line where your feet will tan and where they will not.

Apply cream to feet first.

  • Soles of feet.

  •  Run cream up your heels (see where it would normally tan).

  • Between your toes (all the way up to the "web")

  • Apply cream to hands.

  •  Nails and cuticles (liberally).

  • Palms of hands.

  • Wrist area (lightly).

  •  Between fingers up to “webs”.

If you have dry patches of skin or elbows and knees rub them one time with the palms of your hands.

DO NOT TOUCH ANY PART OF YOUR BODY ONCE YOU HAVE APPLIED THE BLOCKING CREAM AS IT WILL LEAVE LIGHTER TAN MARKS ON THE AREA YOU HAVE TOUCHED.   If you feel that you must itch your nose, for example, use one of the wet-wipes to ensure the cream is taken off that area and re-apply blocking cream to hands.

Open the door to the booth and enter.   When you take up the tanning positions, stand as close to the door as possible without touching it.

You can breathe in the booth; DHA is a sugar and is completely safe.

Take up position 1 and press the green button once.  This will commence the 4 tanning cycles.   Each cycle lasts for 14 seconds and there is a 4 second break between cycles which allows you to change position.   Sometimes people are startled when the booth starts to operate but this is normal.   The nozzles open from the bottom and work their way up your body.  When the nozzles reach eye level, close your eyes gently.  Try not to squint as this may cause white lines around your eyes.

When the 4 cycles have finished, open the door to the booth and get out, being careful not to touch your body with blocking cream.

Take the shower cap off your head and use it like a glove to rub excess solution into the “smiley” bit of your body.   The “smiley” bits are those under your breasts and the bottom of your buttocks.

Take the small towel and wipe the blocking cream from your feet and hands making sure not to spread the blocking cream onto areas where you want a tan.

Take the larger of the two towels and wipe any excess mist from your body.   Start at the bottom of your legs and arms and work your way up your body with a gentle rubbing motion.

Once you have toweled off, your body will feel moist.  This is the Aloe-Vera moisturizing your skin.

As an extra precaution take the wet wipes and clean the areas which had blocking cream applied and where you do not want a tan.   The blocking cream will have prevented the tanning solution touching your skin but this is just an extra precaution to ensure that you had all areas covered.   Pay particular attention to the area around your nails as this is the most likely problem area.

You can shower six hours after you have used the booth.  By that time the DHA has started to react with your skin and it is safe to wash the bronzing agent off.

In the unlikely event that you see dark areas forming in places where you do not want a tan you can use any whitening toothpaste to remove the stain.  Apply the toothpaste to the affected area and leave until it dries.   Wipe off the toothpaste with a damp cloth.
